General and unassigned expenses
Updated July 27, 2026·1 min read
Sometimes a cost isn’t tied to one address (shared tools, portfolio insurance, software). Doortrackr lets you save a receipt without a property — often called general or unassigned.
How reports treat them
On Schedule E summaries and the PDF Tax Report, general expenses can be allocated across active properties for the date range (based on your account’s allocation preference where applicable). The goal is CPA-friendly totals without forcing you to invent a fake property assignment.
When to use them
- Truly shared portfolio costs
- You’re unsure which property yet (assign later by editing)
When not to
If you know the property, assign it. Cleaner filters and clearer per-property Schedule E pages.
